The question is not what information should I put on my dog tag, it is why does my dog need a dog tag. And the truth is, the main reason we need our dog to wear a dog tag is not because we're afraid of the fine, but because should the worse ever happen and we're separated from our best friend, we want to know we've done everything we could have to ensure we're reunited.
If you are unsure of what information you should put on your dog tag then ask yourself this - what information would you NEED to know if you found a lost dog. You'd want to know who their owner is, how you can get hold of them, where they live (chances are they're lost close to home) and if there are any medical or special needs of the dog that require immediate attention should you not be able to contact the owner.
We recommend using The Control Of Dogs Order 1992 as a guide. This mandates that 'any dog in a public place must wear a collar with the name and address (including postcode) of the owner written on the tag. Your telephone number is optional (but advisable).'
